Brahmaputra to bid farewell to Dr Hazarika
Arunachal declares one-
ITANAGAR, Nov 7: The mortal remain of legendary Dr Bhupen Hazarika was flown to Guwahati this morning where his last rites will be held on Tuesday.
His cremation will take place tomorrow at one pm on the banks of the Brahmaputra, a river which he revered and eulogized in many of his songs.
A source of inspiration for many of his deeply meaningful lyrics, it is only appropriate that this proud son of the soil will have his last rites of passage on its very bank.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today directed the Chief Secretary to declare the mourning immediately. All state government institutions will remain closed as a mark of respect for the departed soul, whose association with Arunachal Pradesh has been incomparable.
The Chief Minister, who is in New Delhi on urgent official matters, expressed regret that he would not be able to personally attend the last rites of the ‘friend, philosopher and guide of Arunachal Pradesh’. However, he asserted that emotionally he is with all those in grief on the demise of one of the greatest personalities of the North East and join them in expressing condolence.
Tuki requested the members of Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) led by Y D Thongchi, who would be attending the last rites of the departed cultural icon on Tuesday, to convey the pain and grief felt by the people of Arunachal on the irreparable loss and the love and affection towards Late Bhupenda.
The Nyishi Elite Society has deeply mourned the demise of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. The North East has lost a multifaceted personalities and a visionary human being with the passing away of Dr. Hazarika, it said.
Though he may not be with us today but his songs like Suraj ka kiran….hamara Arunachal, Koto Jowanor mrityu hol, Siang orre galong, Lohitore Khampti, Pada ngunyi ge beenaam (Nyishi) will continue to reverberate in the hills and valleys of Arunachal Pradesh, it said. Donyipolo Nyedar Namlo, Itanagar and Doimukh Nyeder Namlo also condoled the death of Dr. Hazarika. Arunachal Artiste Forum in a condolence meeting at Naharlagun yesterday expressed deep shock at the demise of music maestro Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
Assamese community residing at capital complex yesterday paid tribute to Bhupen Hazarika in a simple function here at Imdad Bhawan.
The house also observed two minutes silence and prayed for his departed soul to rest in peace.
The function was jointly organized by the Assamese Youth Welfare Association of Arunachal Pradesh, Asom Arunachal Sammanoy Rakkhi Lekhikha Samaroh Sakha Samity and Assameese Students’ Union of NERIST.
Arunachal Shiksha Vikas Samiti, Arunachal Pradesh has also mourned the demise of Late Hazarika.
Hundreds of people including prolific writer, poet and novelist Kaling Borang, Dean of College of Horticulture Dr. BN Hazarika, renowned scientist of Assam Horticulture University Prof. AC Bora, Dr. BR Phukan (CAU Pasighat), Girin Tamuly turned up and paid their homage to music legend Dr. Bhupen Hazarika this evening at state’s oldest Namghar. Maintain bridge safety: East Kameng Police
ITANAGAR, Nov 7: The East Kameng Police SP Kime Aya said that in order to avoid Seppa Bridge collapse like incidents in future, a technical survey of other suspension bridges in Seppa including Bana bridges may be conducted urgently and necessary repair must be carried out.
Plying of any vehicle over footpath suspension bridges must be stopped by fixing barricades at the both ends of the bridge, it said while adding that the concern authorities may appoint at least 10 chowkidars against each hanging bridge at Seppa to guard them during Gandhi Puk season.

Lab to Land Initiative for the Bharat Nirman Volunteers
ITANAGAR, Nov 7: An orientation training programme under Ministry of Rural Development, Govt of India (MoRD) sponsored Lab to Land Initiative for the Bharat Nirman Volunteers commenced here at SIRD Arunachal Pradesh today.
MoRD has initiated the Lab to Land initiative to promote convergence of efforts and voluntarism for ensuring mass awareness on all development in the rural sector with a view of increasing effectiveness in programme implementation of all central schemes. The initiative is being implemented in a phased manner through an evolutionary process. The Lab to Land initiative aims at building empowered communities through a dedicated team of volunteers known as Bharat Nirman Volunteers (BNVs). The initiative is being taken up by the States in selected CD Blocks and being supported by their respective SIRDs. Under the initiative Doimukh CD Block has been selected as the pilot block and Papumpare District has been selected as the pilot district by the State Government. Under directions from MoRD, each SIRD is involved in capacity building of the BNVs.
Inaugurating the programme, Nyabin Ete, Director SIRDA appreciated the initiative demonstrated by the BNVs who had turned out in appreciable numbers for attending the training programme. He elaborated on the process of data collection and the proactive role to be played by the BNVs in their respective areas for ensuring awareness of all development programmes of rural sector to the citizens in the rural areas of Doimukh CD Block.
Chagam Dolo, BDO Doimukh addressing the delegates emphasised on the importance of voluntarism, participation and ownership of development process by the volunteers. He recalled the positive experience gained in national workshop being conducted by MoRD where the true importance of the volunteers is being shared. He said that a true and active volunteer would eventually be critical for ensuring awareness and gain acceptance equivalent to public leaders and senior officials because of proximity and relevance to the grassroots.
The programme is being conducted by Rakesh Srivastava, Asst Director SIRD cum Coordinator of Lab to Land initiative. The programme shall be followed by a series of training interventions at overall capacity building of the BNVs. He also appraised the volunteers of the proactive role being played by the District Administration in the background for success of the initiative particularly through ensuring active participation of the concerned line departments.
The programme is being attended by approximately 70 BNVs from various Gram Panchayat segments of Doimukh CD Block. BNVs include youth from the CD Block to even Panchayat leaders from the block who have expressed their willingness to contribute to the society in the capacity of a BNV.
MoRD has launched a specific training website at www.ruraldiksha.nic.in where the profile of the BNVs including those from Arunachal Pradesh are maintained online. The website also contains brief of success stories and important updates about Lab to Land Initiative.

Condemning the alleged partial distribution of corpus fund by the Govt in recent past in which VKV was kept aside, the Association claimed that despite several round of talks and assurance from former education minister Bosiram Siram during Dorjee Khandu led Govt, it’s demand remains unfulfilled till date. It may be mentioned here that VKV which runs 32 Govt aided schools in the state were granted only Rs 40 crore as corpus fund in 2008 by late Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu. However, the Association is demanding grant of additional corpus fund to meet the additional expenses of the schools.
Silver Jubilee of Town Baptist Church
ITANAGAR, Nov 7: Town Baptist Church Itanagar has celebrated Silver Jubilee from Nov 4 to 6. The Jubilee celebration was attended by founder members of the church. More than 2000 believers from different churches and NBCC Staff workers witnessed the function. The theme of the Jubilee was “Great is Thy faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:23).

ITANAGAR, Nov 7: The last six month has been toughest phase in the history of Arunachal Pradesh since it attained statehood. The political turmoil caused by infighting within ruling Congress almost divided state into pieces. The venue of battleground kept shifting from national capital New Delhi to state capital Itanagar.
As now things are beginning to settle down, it is time for some retrospection and time to join pieces together to make out why did we had to suffer so much for sake of politicians. Though state were going from bad to worse, no social thinker came out to put douse to the fire. Everyone kept mum and silently watched capital burn. In the meanwhile state capital was handed over to goons. They kept dictating the terms of life of capital citizen. Every third day there was bandh call and violence. With bandh call, majority of schools remain closed and student community suffered lot. The fear psychosis gripped citizens of capital. But still all prominent social thinkers of state maintained stoic silence. I still can’t make out what made them to remain silent. Did not their heart bleed, seeing state going from bad to worse due to political turmoil.
With educated and learned people taking backseat, goons took centre stage and became
hero during last 6 months. This was time when our MLAs were provided security by
goons and they felt safer under goons than police force. The way they were used by
politicians and the way they dictated terms, I feel like we are handing our future
to these goons. This is beginning and in days to come one should not be surprised
if every children of Arunachal chooses goonda as profession instead of becoming engineers
and doctors. These goons are well paid and have strong connection with politicians
and can bring capital to standstill with bandh calls which makes them the most powerful
persons of capital. Somehow the learned senior citizens of Arunachal failed to guide
youth force during last few months. Instead of coming out and condemning the act
of goondaism, they kept silent. They have set a very bad precedent and coming generation

Power dept blamed for house fire
ITANAGAR, Nov 7: Kipa Welfare Society (KWS) has blamed the power department for yesterday’s house fire at Banderdewa in which dwelling houses of Kipa Chachu and Bagang Singki were burnt to ashes at around 2 pm.
It claimed that the fire was triggered by electric spark due to loose connection. Had the department conducted routine checking, the fire could have been avoided, it said, and demanded the department concerned to compensate the victims immediately.
MLA Nabam Rebia, who visited the spot, has assured to help the victim, KWS said.
In yet another fire accident, the house of Kej Takam at Dariya Hill Colony, Itanagar was completely destroyed yesterday. The victims lost all his household items, according to Daria Hill Colony Committee release.
It appealed to the local MLA and authorities concerned to provide relief the victim for quick rehabilitation.

ITANAGAR, Nov 7: Donyi Polo Nyedar Namlo, Itanagar has condoled the sad demise of Rutum Kamgo and Tadam Taki who lost their lives in a tragic road accident near Silapathar in Assam on 5th November.

LRBWS demands termination of VP
ITANAGAR: Libo Ramo Bokar Welfare Society reiterating its earlier demands, appealed to the government for immediate payment of compensation to late Tamar Yorpen’s family and termination of Jomdo Lona, Vice Principal of government higher secondary school, Aalo from his service.
Yorpen had committed suicide on Oct 24 last.

Many people have raised concern about mushrooming of numerous associations/organizations/unions etc. among different communities and their relevance in today’s Arunachal. Its useless asking which one is real or fake, which has mandate or not. It’s the way to earn their livelihood and it has become a big corporate to employ huge numbers of people from all walks of life, where there is hardly any criteria or qualifications and no age bar. In fact most of them are not qualified or talented enough to compete with others, not enough moral to do hard work/ work in the field as they lack sincerity and dedication and they have no patience to wait. They want only easy money and then power at any cost, I repeat at any cost. Any issue is open or closed according to money and power involve in it. The day is not far where every household will have president or secretary of unions and parents proud of it.
My suggestion to the govt. is to create a separate department for unions to be headed by themselves or recruits them through APSCE or hire Chinese army to deal with it.
However my apology to those few unions who fight for noble cause.

Do not be carried away by fake organizations
Dear Editor,
It’s very unfortunate to learn that some unrecognised organisation by the name Nyishi Youth Welfare Association (NYWA) is dent upon to tarnish the image of the apex ogranisation of Nyishi community; NES & ANSU and in particular to the president of NES by any means. I fail to understand whether such noble organisation do really exist in practical or its just another dummy organisation using the Nyishi nomenclature to meet their selfish ends. I have serious doubt that the executive members of this particular organisation (if at all it exists) are from the Nyishi community.
A true Nyishi will never dare to write anything that is against the interest of the
community no matter how grave the situation may be. A true Nyishi will never sell
his/her soul in the open market for few bucks and above all as evident from the various
press releases issued by this particular organi-
I sincerely urge my Nyishi brotherens to give a damn to such useless and fake organisation
and to remain vigilant from the evil and deceptive forces that are hell-
Nobody is above the society. We human beings are social animals and we need to have proper mandate to lead any society/community. I also strongly urge the apex organisation of our community to do some investigation about the authenticity of all those organisations/unions who are branding the Nyishi tag for their selfish means and survival.
My sincere request to other fellow Arunachalees is that do not be carried away or misguided by the so called fake organisations branding the Nyishi tag. The NES & ANSU is the only apex organisation of Nyishi community. Let’s all Arunachalee stand united and face the challenges together that we are bound to face in the days to come and move ahead hand in hand for the future security of our next generation and for all round development of our beautiful state.

Apropos the article “One Sided view “ in the Readers Forum on Nov 3, by some self proclaimed and vested interest PR Leaders, I would like to remind them of the following facts.
The very fact is that the self proclaimed PR leaders are politically moulded and motivated individual who seems to be a political pawn of the sitting MLA. His writing says it all.
Firstly, may I ask PR Leaders, where was the sitting MLA, when the MOA for Lower Siang Hydro Electric Projects was signed in February 2006 with Jaypee Power Developer? Was he hibernating? Was he not the ex MLA of 32nd Rumgong constituency then? Why he did not educate the public about the said MOA dam then? Is he a seasonal leader, who waits only for a chance to pounce upon? In the second dam meeting at Pessing last year he was asked by all the senior citizens of Jomlo Mobuk area to convey the sentiments of the dam affected people of his constituency to convey the govt. Of Arunachal Pradesh. But he bluntly refused it. So is he not our representative and is he not responsible to the public of Sirit and Siyom Banggo? He is as much responsible as much as the ex MLA Dibang Tatak.
For your kind recollection, every member including the village leaders, panchayat members and land owners spoke against the proposed dam and every member was given equal chance to speak.
Are you really a panchayat leader or an outsider financed by J.P group, because you forgot to recognise your own people and mistaken them for an outsider.
And regarding the expenses of the meeting, all the expenses were borne by the public of Sirit and Siyom Banggo. Those were the hard earned man and material resources of the dam affected people of the Jomlo Mobuk circle. All the public of Pessing had a sleepless night to conduct the said meeting. How can a person who has sold all his integrity and dignity at the hands of a corporate just for a pocket of money question the integrity and dignity of the whole Adi? How can a man whose hands are already stained with blood try to wash the hands of others?
For your kind information, no civil servants broke the rules and norms of service as alleged by you. Rather they were all dam affected people and they never critized the govt. and its policies but they were educating the public about the pros and cons of the dam. Moreover, we have every freedom to fight for our rights as an affected individual.
Regarding the involvement of external forces and outsiders participation, I dare you to show the evidence, if there is an iota of truth in your allegations. Rather you seems to be an outsider who is trying to divide us, which will never be successful.
And regarding your philantrophic gesture about the future of 400 employees in J.P group, I ask you Mr.PR leader will you provide us all our lands, properties, livilihood, dwellings, our future, generation that are going to be taken away? When you can worry about only 400 people, why you cannot worry about the thousands of people that are going to be doomed by the proposed dam. Shame on you!
What is your motive? How come you are so overtly interested in affairs of a greedy corporate? Who are you to question the credibility of the Bogum Bokang and Adi Bane Kebang?
Our suggestion to you is to quit your PR job and be elected chairman and president

Norway tops in human development index
Norway retained its top position from last year in UN’s annual Human Development Index (HDI) ahead of Australia and then the Netherlands, while the United States, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Germany and Sweden comprise the remainder of the top 10 in that order.
But when the HDI is adjusted for economic inequality, the standings of some countries fall significantly. The US falls from four to 23, the Republic of Korea (ROK) from 15 to 32, and Israel from 17 to 25.
In the case of the US and Israel, their positions are affected by income inequality, although health care is also an influencing factor for the US, while education gaps between generations are the main reason for the ROK’s ranking change.
In contrast, other countries’ standings improve after the HDI has been adjusted for inequality. Sweden jumps from 10 to five, Denmark from 16 to 12, and Slovenia rises from 21 to 14.
UNDP also released its related Gender Inequality Index, which puts various European countries at the forefront of gender equality. Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark and Switzerland head the rankings, followed by Finland, Norway and Germany.
That index takes into account indicators on reproductive health, schooling years,
government representation and participation in the labour market. Yemen ranks as
the least equitable, followed by Chad, Niger, Mali, the DRC and Afghanistan. In the
case of Yemen, just 7.6 % of women have secondary education, 0.7 % of legislature
seats are occupied by women and only 20 % of working-
